With the acceleration of population aging in China, the prevalence of multiple chronic conditions among the elderly is becoming increasingly common, which not only increase the burden on the healthcare system but also challenges the physical and mental health of the elderly.Elderly patients with chronic comorbidities often face a variety of health problems that seriously affect their quality of life, leading to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. This paper focuses on the depressive symptoms in this population and on paying attention to and addressing the depressive symptoms of elderly patients with chronic comorbidities, which is of great significance for achieving healthy aging.Studies shown that the incidence of depressive symptoms in patients with chronic comorbidities is significantly higher than that in patients with a single chronic disease.Currently, although the pathogenesis of depressive symptoms in elderly patients with chronic comorbidities were not identified, some studies have revealed the relevant influencing factors, including gender, age, socioeconomics, health condition, social support, etc.A deeper understanding of these factors is of great significance for formulating effective intervention measures.Current intervention measures for depressive symptoms in elderly patients mainly include pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.Pharmacological treatment primarily relies on antidepressants, but the risks and side effects of polypharmacy in the elderly need to be considered.Non-pharmacological treatments are diverse,including(Internet-based)cognitive behavioral therapy, exercise intervention, reminiscence therapy, group music therapy, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment, all of which have been shown to have significant effects on alleviating depressive symptoms in elderly patients. This paper reviews relevant research both domestically and internationally, aiming to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the epidemiological characteristics, influencing factors, and effective intervention measures for this population,so as to provide a scientific basis for improving the mental health of elderly patients with multiple chronic conditions.
