Impact of Six Sigma nursing project management on patients with acute leukemia
Objective To explore the impact of Six Sigma nursing project management on the severity of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis, quality of life and emotions in patients with acute leukemia. Methods A total of 104 patients with acute leukemia who received chemotherapy at Taixing People's Hospital in Jiangsu Province from January 2019 to December 2021 were selected.According to the principle of balanced and comparable baseline data between the groups, they were divided into a control group and an observation group, with 52 patients in each group. The control group received routine chemotherapy nursing measures, while the observation group implemented Six Sigma nursing project intervention methods. The differences in quality of life, negative emotions, and the incidence of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis between the two groups were compared before and after the intervention(12 days after chemotherapy). Results After the intervention, the oral mucositis patients in the observation group was 9 cases(17.31%),which was less than the 20 cases(38.46%)in the control group, the differences was statistically significant(P<0.05).Before the intervention, there was no statistically significant difference in Positive and Negative Affect Scale(PANAS)and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Leukemia(FACT-Leu)scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention, the positive emotion score in the observation group was 38.64±3.95 points, which was higher than the 27.32±5.17 points in the control group, while the negative emotion score in the observation group was 14.64±4.93 points, which was lower than the 30.53±6.25 points in the control group, the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the intervention, the each dimension scores and total score of quality of life in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Providing oral care intervention based on Six Sigma nursing project management for patients with acute leukemia can alleviate negative emotions, improve quality of life, and effectively reduce the incidence of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis.
