Effect of comfort care on children undergoing day surgery and their parents
Objective To explore the effect of comfort care on reducing anxiety and depression in parents of children undergoing day surgery and improving the children's adherence to care.Methods A total of 105 children undergoing day surgery and their parents,admitted from April to December 2022,were selected as study subjects.The 52 children treated from April to July 2022 were assigned to the control group and received routine care.The 53 children treated from August to December 2022 were assigned to the observation group and received comfort care intervention.The study compared the following between the two groups:the Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)score and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)score for parents'psychological state,the General Comfort Questionnaire(GCQ)score of the children,parents'knowledge of the disease,children's adherence to treatment,parents'satisfaction with the care and so on.Results Before intervention,there was no statistically significant difference in HAMA and HAMD scores of parents and GCQ scores of children between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention,the HAMA and HAMD scores of parents in the observation group were lower than those of in the control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);the GCQ score of children in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the intervention,the parents of the children in the observation group had higher scores than those in the control group in terms of understanding of complications,medication adherence,emotional management,functional exercise,and dietary management,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);treatment compliance degree of children in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);nursing satisfaction of parents in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of comfort care intervention in the perioperative period for children undergoing day surgery can not only reduce the anxiety and depression of the children's parents,but also improve their satisfaction with care and knowledge of the disease.Additionally,it effectively improves children's adherence to treatment,ensuring the smooth implementation of the operation.
