The flue-cured tobacco variety Jiyan No. 9 was selected to study the effect of different plant populations and K application on chemical components and aroma substances of flue-cured tobacco by a field split block experiment design. Results showed that: 1) With the increase of plant population, the content of total sugar was increased, but contents of the total nitrogen, the protein, the nicotine and the chlorine ware decreased, the potassium content showed an earlier raised and later decreased state; and with the increase of potassium application rate, contents of the total nitrogen, the protein, the nicotine and potassium were increased, but the total sugar and the chlorine content were decreased; 2) Both of the treatments, namely plant population and K application, and their interactions extremely significantly affected the contents of aroma substances in post-cured tobacco leaf; aroma substances which were the highest at rate of 16 500 trees/ha and 328. 5 kg/ha were raised with the increase of plant population, total aroma substances, showed the tendency of decreased first and ascend later with the increase of potassium application rate; 3 ) All the results suggested that structure of plant population 15 100 trees/ha and K application 328. 5 kg/ha on the quality of flue-cured tobacco leaf was reasonable and were higher on aroma substances in the flue-cured and chemical components became suitable.
