Research progress on preparation of chitosan-based biochar and its applications in energy storage and environmental governance
Transformation of biowaste into N-doped biochar conforms to a concept of green chemistry and also shows good prospects in energy storage and environmental governance.Among them, the precursor type is the key point for the production of high-performance nitrogen-doped biochar.Chitosan,as the only sole polysaccharide with amine-based groups in nature,is an excellent precursor for nitrogen-doped biochar. In situ N-doped can be achieved in biochar through a thermo-chemical process under inert atmosphere.Recent developments on preparation methods of chitosan-based nitrogen-doped biochar and its applications, including supercapacitor,electro-catalysis,CO2 capture and water treatment, were discussed. The effects of surface areas, pore structures and nitrogen-containing functional groups of biochar on the application performances were analyzed. The characteristics, advantages and key issues faced in practical applications of nitrogen-doped biochar were discussed. It can provide certain references for designing high-performance nitrogen-doped biochar and broadening its potential applications.
