Research status and prospects of underground hydrogen storage technology
Hydrogen energy is currently the clean energy attracting the most attention, and countries around the world are vigorously developing it.The development of hydrogen storage technology has made it possible for hydrogen and solar and wind power generation to complement each other.Underground hydrogen storage technology, possessing both safety and economic advantages,is China's primary approach to carry out energy reserves and peak shaving. This study first summarizes the basic principles and current research status of salt cavern hydrogen storage, depleted oil and gas reservoir hydrogen storage and aquifer hydrogen storage. It then outlines the current technical challenges faced by depleted oil and gas reservoir hydrogen storage, mainly including geochemical reactions, cushion gas selection, and wellbore cement integrity. Finally,it is pointed out that the underground hydrogen storage technology is different from other hydrogen storage technologies due to the complexity of underground pore spaces and numerous influencing factors. It is necessary to strengthen the safety analysis of hydrogen storage under the coupling of multiple factors and continuously develop and optimize the numerical simulation models to accelerate the development of underground hydrogen storage technology.
