Character Writing in the Context of Stylistic and Ideological Shaping:A Comparison of the History of Zi Chan in Han Fei Zi and Zuo Zhuan
The writing of the same character or the same historical event in the pre-Qin classics is often constrained by its academic style and ideology.Zi Chan's words and actions are mostly contained in Zuo Zhuan,in which Zi Chan's history is taken from the state history of Lu.Han Fei's Han state was inherited from Zi Chan's Zheng state, and the record of Zi Chan in Han Fei Zi may be from the state history of Zheng. The historical events of Zi Chan described by Zuo and Han Fei are generally the same, but the difference in style between the praise, prophecy, and rhetoric, and the interpretation of scripture, argumentation, and debate shows the difference in the concepts of Confucianism and Legalist school, which in turn changed the direction of the historical narrative, and shaped the two different outlooks of Zi Chan.
