Study on water-holding capacity and characteristics of forest litter in plateau region of Yunnan
To disclosure the eco-hydrological function of litter of Napahai basin in Yunnan province, the litter amount and its water holding characteristic parameters, such as the water holding capacity, water absorption rate and the modified interception amount under 3 typical forest plantations were studied. The results show that the litter storage of pinus densata was the largest, followed by Betula platyphylla, and Quercus aquifolioides, the order of water holding capacity and modified interception of litter was the same with litter storage. The value of litter storage, water holding capacity and modified interception of half-decomposed litter was larger than that of undecomposed litter. The water absorption rates of the 3 kind of litters were faster within the first 2 hours, slowing down obviously around 10 hours. Water holding capacity of 3 undecomposed litters and half-decomposed litters increased logarithmically over time immersed in water, as the equation w=a.lnt+b, the relation formula of the water absorption rates and immersion time was w=a·tb.
