Many important events in The Plum in the Golden Vase take place in the streets and alleys of Qinghe County,making it one of the indispensable narrative spaces.It not only provides a place for the characters to survive and engage in activities,but also conveys the identity information of the characters,portrays the story-line,and even relates to the main theme of the work.According to statistics,the streets and alleys with specif-ic names in the entire book are called Nine Streets and Thirteen Alleys,which became one of the important are-as of the life,action and contradiction led by Xi Menqing.Taking the"Nine Streets and Thirteen Alleys"in The Plum in the Golden Vase as the research object,on the basis of list statistics,using relevant theories of spatial narratology,this paper analyzes the presentation methods and narrative functions of street and alley spaces,in order to glimpse the author's creative art and provide some reference for in-depth research on the spatial narrative value of The Plum in the Golden Vase.
