The role and research progress of ferroptosis in joint diseases
Iron death is a new cell death mode different from traditional cell death, which is characterized by the accumulation of iron dependent lipid peroxides and eventually leads to cell death.Recent studies have shown that iron death is related to neurodegenerative diseases,ischemia-reperfusion injury, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and other diseases.Cell death induced by iron death is also closely related to joint diseases, such as osteoarthritis, knee osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative arthritis of intervertebral disc, etc. The study of iron death can clarify the pathogenesis of bone diseases and provide new targets for the treatment of these diseases. This review will summarize the information on the molecular mechanism of iron death and describe its emerging role and therapeutic potential in bone diseases.
