Analysis of the Phenomenon of Political Degradation in Taiwan——Based on the Perspective of Political Decay Theory
The 2024"two-in-one"elections in Taiwan has been settled, and the Democratic Progressive Party continues to be in power. The fourth political party rotation widely expected by the public has failed to materialize. It is generally believed that Taiwan has experienced three political party turnovers since its political transformation, and it seems to have achieved"democratic consolidation".However, under the cloak of democratic politics,Taiwan's political circles are full of chaos, including black money politics, rampant corruption, vicious fighting between political parties, ethnic divisions, which are visible to all,and the Taiwanese people are deeply disgusted. There are various signs that Taiwanese society has been mired in the crisis of democratic governance, and there is a serious political decline. The political decline in Taiwan is manifested in many aspects such as the alienation of democratic politics into populist politics, the prevalence of"veto politics",social tearing caused by ethnic antagonism, and the depletion of democratic checks and balances.Taiwan's politics have long been trapped in populism and identity politics.Fundamental defects in the political system, confrontational political structure, stagnant economic development, and the mutual exclusivity of political culture are the internal mechanism of political decline in Taiwan.
