An Analysis of the Framework Construction by Taiwan Media in Reporting on Chinese Mainland:Employing Gamson's"Interpretive Package Theory"
The media in the Taiwan subtly influences the cognition,identification,and emotional attitudes of the Taiwanese people towards the Chinese mainland,inevitably exerting a significant impact on the development of cross-Straits relations and the process of national reunification.This study,employing the interpretive package theory framework as its pathway and covering 13 media outlets in Taiwan,identifies their ownership,media type,and attitudinal stance are crucial variables affecting the issue preferences and source use in these media's news reporting on the Chinese mainland(n=1145).Concurrently,the media's reporting on the Chinese mainland constructs eight news frameworks:"Fact Presentation,""Policy Commentary,""Shared Benifits and Integration,""Trade Competition,""Cultural Prosperity,""Artistic Exchange,""Good Governance and Peace,"and"Social Crisis."Lastly,by analyzing the influence of factors such as partisan competition,commercialization,and pluralistic values on the news frameworks,this paper aims to provide reference opinions for enhancing the effectiveness of news exchange,fostering emotional identification,and deepening the integration and development cross-Straits.
