Sociology of Physical Activities:A Genealogy and a Paradigm on the Nexus for Body's Dual Nature in Biological and Social
Physical activities are metaphors for the society.Though sociology of physical activities is in its early days,it presents its worth in understanding the social mechanism of new days through physical activities.Due to the lack of categorical definition and in-troduction of its concept and research paradigm,we follow the clue of what it is,how it is possible and what will it do to shed a light on them,and explore its way out to localization in China.In doing so,we thought that sociology of physical activities,which inherits the disciplinary technique and empirical quality from its parent discipline,studies the connective mechanism between physical activi-ties and take physical activities as a kind of contextualized representation of body's dual nature in biological and social physical.Then,based on the organic connection among physical activities,society and knowledge,physical activities play the multiple roles of"generator""reader"and"translator"of society,which not only restrict the interaction forms between social subjects,but products knowledge from its embodied experience and inspire subjective imagination with its social settlement.Finally,to enact the potential dynamic of sociology of physical activities,it was necessary an innovation in research paradigm.In addition to think outside the em-piricism,which are macroscopic and abstract,explore the explanatory mechanism of the coupling between the dual nature of body,and avoid the confusion and abuse of"invention"and"discovery"in knowledge production.
