Impact of Environmental Regulations on the Technological Innovation of Heavy Polluting Enterprises
Ecological environment has become an important topic of concern for the Chinese government and the public.The new"Environmental Protection Law"has been implemented on January 1,2015.This paper uses Chinese listed companies from 2007-2021 as a research sample.With the help of the"New Environmental Protection Law",which is a quasi-natural experiment,divide enterprises into heavy polluting enterprises and non-heavy polluting enterprises in order to test the effect of the"New Envi-ronmental Protection Law"on the technological innovation of heavily polluting enterprises.It finds that the"New Environmental Protection Law"can improve the level of technological innovation of heavily polluting enterprises,and has a greater impact in the sample of state-owned enterprises and green patents,thus forcing the technological innovation of heavily polluting enterprises.This provide experience and empirical evidence for technological innovation of heavily polluting enterprises and construction of relevant policies and regulations in China.
