High Gain Vivaldi Antenna Loaded with Metamaterials
In this paper,an ultra-wideband extended Vivaldi antenna is studied. In order to improve its gain,an ultra-wide-band artificial electromagnetic metamaterial element with non-resonant characteristics is designed. After integrating this element with the extension Vivaldi antenna, the antenna gain can be improved without affecting the antenna efficiency and echo loss charac-teristics.The measured maximum gain can be increased by 2.5 dB.Antenna size is 0.925 0λ×0.650 0λ×0.008 3λ,the meas-ured impedance bandwidth is from 2.5 GHz to 20.0 GHz,up to 8 octaves, and the measured gain can reach 9.56 dBi at 15 GHz.The measured and simulated results of the antenna are basically consistent. The antenna shows good directional radiation effect in the main operating frequency band, can be used in electromagnetic compatibility test,ultra-wideband wireless transmission system, ground penetrating radar test, microwave brain detection system and other fields.
