A Sub-regional Higher Education Integration:Identity Transformation and Collaborative Mechanism of EUCOR-European Campus
The EUCOR-European Campus is a regional concept and a sub-regional alliance spontaneously formed by three countries and five universities in the Upper Rhine region. From the perspective of self-organization,it clarifies the development trajectory and operational mechanisms of European campuses, revealing how their identities transition from disorder to order, and gradually achieve the process of sub-regional higher education integration. In the bottom-up process of self-organizational development, the Campus has undergone three identity evolutions, transitioning from a partner to a European ideal, and then to a legal entity. This is a nonlinear process that progresses from a lower level of organi-zation to a higher level.Following its official establishment, the Campus operates through in-tegrated interest spaces driven by resource complementarity,cross-border mobility facilitat-ed by institutional coordination, and project collaboration enabled by financial coordina-tion.Additionally,the evolution and development of European campuses have also benefit-ed from institutional isomorphism among European countries,non-linear synergy among border regions, and identity recognition among campus collaborations.
