Effectiveness and Problems:Reflections and En-lightenment on the Deployment of Teaching As-sistants for Inclusive Education in the UK Main-stream School
The deployment of teaching assistants(TAs)in mainstream schools is an important initiative to promote the development of inclusive education in the UK.After years of development,TAs are categorized into Whole-class Teaching Assistants,In-class targeted Teaching Assistants and Withdrawal intervention delivery Teaching Assistants ac-cording to the classroom context of inclusive education and the actual needs of special edu-cational needs(SEN)pupils. The diversified types of teaching assistants not only increase the active learning behaviors of SEN pupils, but also relieve the pressure of teachers in mainstream schools to carry out inclusive education to a large extent, and greatly promote the process and quality improvement of inclusive education in UK.However, due to the low entry threshold, unclear division boundary, lack of professional quality, poor coordination mechanism, poor working conditions and other problems, teaching assistants also face prob-lems such as low professional recognition, deviation in performance behavior, reduced sup-port effectiveness, limited cooperative teaching, and increased turnover tendency in the practice process.A systematic review of the effectiveness and problems of teaching assis-tants in the development of inclusive education in the UK can provide useful reference for standardizing and optimizing the relevant practice of teaching assistants in China to pro-mote the high-quality development of inclusive education.
