On the Controversy of Critical Race Theory in K-12 Curriculum of American Public Schools
In recent years,CRT has begun to enter the curriculum of K-12 public schools in the United States, becoming a path to cultivate students'social-emotional compe-tence and maintain educational equity. However, with the intensification of racial conflicts and the rise of populism, there is a fierce debate in American society about the existence or abolition of CRT in K-12 public school curriculum.Opponents accuse the theory of hinder-ing the racial identity recognition of primary and secondary school students, distorting American history, and undermining social consensus;Supporters believe that this theory can enhance students'awareness of multiculturalism and enhance the classroom dialogue on race and history issues. This curriculum game centered on CRT reflects the current com-petition between the two Parties in the United States for ideological dominance in the field of public education.K-12 public schools in the United States need to recognize the short-comings of existing curriculum governance, promptly eliminate cognitive biases that affect curriculum setting, and further expand the space of culturally relevant courses.
