The Development of Comparative Education Dis-cipline in China for 30 Years:Research Review and Direction Exploration
Under the context of constructing an"independent Chinese knowledge sys-tem,"it is necessary to review the research achievements in the field of comparative educa-tion to further clarify its developmental direction.Focusing on the discourses of"construct-ing a comparative education with Chinese characteristics"and"the disciplinary crisis and transformative development of comparative education,"the emphasis of research in this field has shifted from ontology to axiology and methodology.On the ontological level,Chi-nese scholars maintain that comparative education is a"discipline"and strive to clarify its connotations and research boundaries.In terms of axiology,the academic community exhib-its varying degrees of attention and importance to the different values of comparative educa-tion,with diverse opinions on the roles or values it should embody in China now or in the fu-ture.Methodologically,researchers tend to incorporate social science research methods into comparative education to address unconscious methodological gaps,yet this"borrowing"ap-proach has led to a lack of focus in methodological research.Future construction of the com-parative education discipline should concentrate on building an independent knowledge sys-tem and seek knowledge innovation by continuously responding to the practical needs of ed-ucational reform in China.Comparative education needs to establish its own disciplinary norms and strengthen the study of foundational theories and the training of research meth-ods for comparative education researchers.
