The Unity of Mission and Value:The Framework for Social Service Curriculum Reform in American Research Universities
as time goes by,universitie's social service has gradually changed from ser-vice to engagement,which has realized the two-way integration of education and social de-velopment.Since the 1960s,in order to mobilize the enthusiasm of college teachers and stu-dents to participate in social service and implement the mission of social service,under the influence of the scholarship engagement theory proposed by Boyer,the United States has es-tablished a relatively complete social service curriculum reform framework.Based on the ba-sic principles of curriculum and instruction,this framework includes the design of goal-ori-ented policy system,the interconnecting social service curriculum structure,the comple-mentary curriculum implementation and guarantee system,and the diversified ways of so-cial engagement,which combines to manifest many unique features,including the unity of mission and value,the unity of the curriculum quantity and implementing quality,the unity of university leadership and social engagement,and the unity of serving global common in-terests and local society.Drawing on the experience of the United States,China's research universities can learn from the unity of education and service,establishing the policy guar-antee of social service,strengthening the exploration of social service curriculum,facilitat-ing the participation mechanism of social service,strengthening the construction of manage-ment institutions,and improving the social evaluation system.
