On the Bioethical Writing and Biopolitical Critique in the Novels of Ian McEwan
As the well-known British"National Writer,"Ian McEwan has been the focus of academic research both at home and abroad. The scholars have drawn consistent research inspiration from multiple perspectives, such as narrative technique, ethical criticism, trauma motif,socio-historical and political metaphors in his novels. It is worth noting that many of his novels touch upon the moralistic inspection in the clinical practice,doctor-patient relation and bureaucracy inside the medical system, but few scholars have interpreted his bioethical and Biopower retrospection.Under the theoretical perspective of Bioethics, this paper attempts to analyze the narrative features of the bioethical writing in McEwan's novels,to examine the moral dilemma of the clinical practice involved with the basic rules of Bioethics, and to reveal McEwan's biopolitical critique of the modern Western medical institution via narrative manipulation.
