It is generally accepted that science fiction is a new and exotic genre that originated in the West.However,its seeds also took root,sprouted and blossomed in the Arab world.The Ajaib literature portrayed the ancient Arabs'conjectures and speculations about the mysteries of nature.The philosophical tales originated in Andalusia generated the reflection of existence with the feature of thought experiment.The folktales exemplified by The Arabian Nights embodied a technological logic that transcended the cognitive experience of the time.Similarly,great masters of philosophy,such as Al-Farabi,illustrated utopian visions of the Islamic style in the metaphysical way through religious philosophy.With the rich heritage of Arab culture,contemporary Arabic science fiction may share some aesthetic connotations with contemporary Western science fiction,but it is unique in its genealogy.
