By examining the significance of Energy Humanities for literary studies,a rising interdisciplinary field in Europe and America in the past decade, the article hopes to enrich domestic discussions on the relevant topic that have so far been based on general introductions only. This article argues that Energy Humanities not only promises a new approach to reexamining the subject of literary studies and rewriting literary history, but also,in terms of methodologies, offers a profound insight into social and ecological criticism for reading and interpretation.Apart from being a material support for literary production, energy,as an invisible force field, shapes the plot, structure, rhetoric, and ideologies of texts.Lastly, with a deep concern for environmental/resource justice and structural equality,Energy Humanities is ultimately human and forward-looking to a sustainable future.
