Love,Nature and Death:A Thematic-Structural Analysis of The Two Noble Kinsmen
Shakespeare's The Two Noble Kinsmen has thematically demonstrated the displacement of Love(Eros),inviting his audience to investigate the transformation(or metamorphosis)of modes(or phases)of this very subject in the four seasons'cycle as indicated by Northrop Frye(and revised by Hayden White)within the fifteen love relationships constituted by eight pairs of lovers:Limerence in Spring/Romance,Perfect Marriage in Summer/Comedy,Death and Violence in Autumn/Tragedy,State of Nature in Winter/Irony.Along this line of interpretation, love,in coincidence with the mythical archetypes of human life, dictates the narrative and structural employment of the plot in this play.In the play's finale, irony constitutes the displacing aspect of Being per se,wherein the plot structure of the entire love mythos is formed, while underscoring the most profound truth of love per se associated with its natural state.
