The Limits of Critique and the Emergence of"Postcritique":On the Relation of"Postcritique,"Critique and Theory
Critique has emerged as a prominent topic in the West during the 21st century. In the process of reflexive examination and collective reflection on critique, the"postcritique"theory proposed by Rita Felski has become an important path for literary theorists to deal with critical problems.Dissatisfied with the routine practice of critique that creates a divide between academics and the public,as well as academic study and ordinary reading,Felski seeks to bridge these gaps. She employs"postcritique"to elucidate the limits of critique in literary studies, underscoring the limits of theory in the validity of theoretical interpretation in the 1980s and 1990s."Postcritique"is not"anti-critique"or"critique of critique,"nor"anti-theory."Felski approaches the relation between"postcritique,"critique, and theory with a reflective consciousness that is both sober and open-minded."Postcritique"goes beyond the general narrative discourse of the crisis of critique, and provides an attempt to revitalize critique.
