Western Travel Literature Studies:From Obscurity to Prosperity
As the literary genealogical representation of travel events,travel literature ac-counts for a great proportion of the history of human culture.However,due to the disdain for tourism within the humanities and the heterogeneity of the travel literature itself,research on travel literature,especially Western travel literature,has long been marginalized and lacked the attention it deserves in academia.Since the 1980s,with the advocacy and promotion of anthropology,literary phenomenology,and postcolonial cultural theory,the long-overlooked literary paradigm of travel literature has finally gained attention,and the study of travel and travel literature has now become even more prosperous in the field of Western literary criti-cism.Revealing the trajectory of Western travel literature research from obscurity to prosper-ity is of vital significance for the academic world to understand how anthropology,literary phenomenology,and postcolonial cultural studies have contributed to the revitalization of travel literature research and their interrelated developmental relationships.
