Research Paradigm of the History of Economic Thoughts in English Literature Under Literary Economic Criticism Discourse
In recent years, interdisciplinary research on literature and economics has become an important field in the foreign literary academia.Western literary economic criticism has ex-perienced a theoretical evolution from traditional political economy criticism, new economic criticism,to new historicist economic criticism, among which the critique awareness of West-ern economic thoughts in literature has not been sufficient, and Marxism of China's New Era provides a guide for constructing a new type of literary economic criticism discourse with Chi-nese characteristics. The research paradigm of the history of economic thoughts in English lit-erature is composed of terms including English literature, economic thought, and nation-state imagination, and these three elements complement each other, forming a dialectical unity. If English literature is the premise and essence,nation-state imagination implies ideological motives and purposes, then economic thought is the medium and central discourse.Through the new literary economic critical theory,we can reveal how English literature reproduces economic thoughts through economic narratives, expressing economic anxiety,nation-state imagination, and imperial consciousness.English literature expresses the development context of economic thought, from mercantilism, free market, dynamic equilibrium, utilitarianism,to state intervention and laissez-faire,and illustrates different types of nation-state imagination, such as construction of nation-state in the Renaissance period, imagination of free trade em-pire in the Enlightenment period, construction of ideal state in the Romantic period,envision-ing of social reform in the Victorian era,and construction of financial empire in the modernist period.
