Belgian French writer Jean-Philippe Toussaint is a travel enthusiast,and his works,which reveal his rich personal travel experience worldwide,has great research implications for the writing of urban landscape.His masterpiece Fuir mainly describes the hero's travel in Beijing and Shanghai.From the hero's personal perspective,Toussaint captures urban landscape in a cinematic way.The striking visual description of cities is juxtaposed with the anxiety,despair and loneliness of modern urbanites,revealing the dilemmas of modern life.This article discusses the significance and value of urban writing in this work from three aspects:the urban space with color and shadow,the urban consumption space and the flowing space in cities.
