论西方奥威尔学术史的思想史意义
On the significance of intellectual history as reflected in the academic history of George Orwell

本文以西方奥威尔学术史为例,从四个方面论述了其中蕴含的思想史意义:第一,西方知识分子团体和个体利用奥威尔批评来表达自身的文化和政治诉求;第二,西方左右两派知识分子围绕奥威尔展开了激烈的意识形态争夺战;第三,英国左派对奥威尔的批判传统凸显他们在社会主义思想的冲突;第四,西方知识分子的奥威尔批评反映出对知识分子职责问题的深度关切.这表明,对于具有世界影响力的经典作家,其学术史研究不能止步于学术史层面,而应该提升到思想史视域的考察,具体是将学术史文本或者批评文本放置到多重思想史语境进行深度阐释,充分挖掘其思想史意义,从而站在思想史的高度去重新认知文本的学术史价值,这就是外国文学学术史研究的"学术史-思想史-学术史"阐释和认知新模式.
Abstract
The significance of intellectual history as reflected in the academic history of George Orwell can be summarized in four aspects:Firstly,Western intellectual groups and individuals utilize Orwell Criticism to articulate their own cultural and political claims;secondly,Western left and right intellectuals engage in ideological battles through Orwell Criticism;thirdly,the tradition of criticism against George Orwell from the British left essentially represents their opposition to socialist ideas;fourthly,Western intellectuals demonstrate their profound concern for the responsibilities of the intellectuals in their Orwell Criticism.All these findings suggest that the study of the academic history of world-renowned classic writers can not be limited to academic history itself,but should be extended to the perspective of intellectual history,and more specifically,the text of academic history or text of criticism should be placed in the layered contexts of intellectual history for further investigation and interpretation.This approach aims to precisely uncover the significance of intellectual history,which in turn can reexamine the values of academic history from the broader perspective of intellectual history.This represents a new method of interpretation and understanding of the academic history of foreign literature,employing the"academic history-intellectual history-academic history"model.
