On the generation mechanism of the subjective decremental construction"Qian X"
"Qian X"is a newly emerging construction that has gained popularity on online platforms in recent years.Based on authentic data,this article analyzes the structural features,the constructional meaning,the generation mechanism,and the emerging motivation of"qian X".The analysis finds that the construction"qian X"is composed of the constant"qian"and the variable"X",where"X"can be a verb,an adjective,a noun and other components.The constructional meaning involves a subjective weakening of the speaker's own actions or attributes,often accompanied by a sense of modesty,humor,or irony.This construction exhibits the features of framing,measurability and subjectivity.Through the frequent usage,this construction has given rise to two variants:the pre-attached variant and the post-attached variant.Based on the Entrenchment-and-Conventionalization Model,it is found that the generation and popularity of this construction are ascribed to the combination of usage,entrenchment and conventionalization.
