Geographical distribution and causes of female translators in the early 20th century(1900-1937)of China——as reflected in Dictionary of Chinese Translators
Based on the statistical data from the Dictionary of Chinese Translators, the study aims to depict the geographic distribution of female translators in the early 20th century(1900-1937)of China as well as examine its reasons from the perspective of geo-translation studies. It reveals that during the 20th century, the female translators was concentrated in a crescent shaped pattern along the southeastern coastal areas, whose geographical advantage of being"facing the sea and with the land behind"not only made itself a pioneering area for the emancipation of feminist thoughts, but also further facilitated the flouring of female education locally. As a result,it laid the ideological and educational foundation for the growth of female translators. The geographical distribution of female translators not only reflects the interactive relationship between translator concentration and geo-culture,but also contributes to the integration of geo-translation studies and talent geography, especially female talent geography.
