Sharp Decline of Breaktime in Primary and Secondary Schools in the UK:Reasons and Reflections
In recent years,a sharp decline in breaktime in primary and secondary schools in the UK has gradually become an issue and has attracted international attention.Research shows that the total length of breaktime in primary and secondary schools in the UK is decreasing in a stepwise manner.Breaks in noon and afternoon are continuously reduced in terms of time slots.A review reveals that the main reasons for the sharp decline are embedded in the efficiency-oriented education quality view at the macro level,the crowding out of breaktime by school-related activities at the meso level,the cancellation of breaktime by teachers based on"reasonable reasons"at the micro level,and the vague positioning of breaktime at the cognitive level.By examining the issue of break time in primary and secondary schools in the UK,four basic questions about breaktime in primary and secondary schools have been considered.
