Equilibrium and Conflict:Analysis of Two Paradigms of the World System Theory in Comparative Education
As an important school of thought in comparative education researches, the World System Theory seeks to solve problems and crises worldwide through comparative education. This school is divided into Equilibrium Paradigm based on neo-institutionalism approach and the Conflict Paradigm based on world system analysis. In view of the current social problems and survival crisis faced by mankind, the former advocates the establishment of world curriculum to promote the progress of the world society, while the latter advocates critical education to explore the fairness and equality of world education and promote the transformation of the world system.Although the two paradigms have different mindsets to solve problems, they have a lot in commons within the world system theory, such as research philosophy and the pursuit of a progress and a better future of human society. The studies out of the two paradigms have made a great contribution to the development of comparative education, despite of shortcomings. At the same time, this school has given many important inspirations to the development of Chinese education.
