Providing Excellent Education in Small Rural Schools in the UK:Potential,Obstacles,and Responses
Small rural schools are the"nerve endings"in education reform and development,and also the key link to implement rural revitalization strategy and promote education equity and high-quality education development.Experience from the UK shows that small rural schools have the potential to promote excellent education through effective leadership,personalized teaching,imaginative curriculum,and safer school conditions.At the same time,environmental factors,especially demographic and financial challenges,are obstacles which can not be ignored.To overcome these obstacles and to ensure the quality of education,the UK mainly adopted three actions:providing financial support and teaching resources,ensuring the supply chain of high-quality talents,and building partnerships among schools.Drawing on the experiences of the UK,the development of small rural schools in our country could focus on the following aspects:implementing evidence-based policy intervention,promoting open dialogues throughout rural communities,and designing local support models for small rural schools.
