Policies and Practices of Teachers'Professional Development from a Lifelong Learning Perspective
Teachers are essential practitioners in releasing the potential of every learner and in achieving inclusive and equitable quality education.According to the Global Report on Teachers 2023,the current teacher shortage that still exists worldwide endangers the future of education. In order to ensure the quantity and quality of the teaching force, there is a need to revisit the professional development of teachers from the perspective of lifelong learning,to strengthen their dual identity as lifelong learners and lifelong learning leaders, and to establish a new social contract for the teaching profession.Based on the world development situation and the dual evolution of historical policy work,UIL and SHNU jointly organized the International Research Workshop on Teachers as Lifelong Learners:Policy and Practice. The conference provided theoretical guidance and experience for teachers'professional development by explaining the rich connotation and key features of lifelong learning, and sharing the policies and practices of teachers'continuous professional development in different countries.Although it has become an international consensus and action to support the professional development of teachers as lifelong learners through policy protection, institutional support, technological empowerment, and research leadership, there is still a need to deepen international exchanges and cooperation in order to promote lifelong learning and continuous professional development of teachers in the face of the macro-level challenges of the times and the society,as well as the micro-level internal challenges in the field of education.
