A Study on the Translation of Chinese Contemporary Children's Literature under the Guidance of Variation Theory——Taking the English Translation of Cao Wenxuan's Bronze and Sunflower as an Example
Bronze and Sunflower is written by Chinese author Cao Wenxuan and is loved by Chinese children readers. The publi-cation of its English translation allows more foreign young readers to come into contact with the pure and beautiful native world under his writing. The success of Cao Wenxuan's works in"going out"is attributed to good translations, which require translators to pay at-tention to the reading needs of foreign young readers to produce better translations. This paper takes variation theory as a guide,fo-cuses on the special needs of children readers, and explores the translation methods suitable for Chinese contemporary children's lit-erature.Starting from the five translation techniques of amplification, omission, recreation, paraphrase, and condensed translation, this paper analyzes the typical examples of Chinese and English translations and elaborates on the strategies for translating and interpret-ing Chinese contemporary children's literature. It emphasizes that translators make reasonable transformations and trade-offs of trans-lations according to the reading needs of the target language readers, which is conducive to providing foreign children with more con-cise,and vivid translations.
