Cognition of Conceptual Metaphor in the German Translation of Laozi under Equivalence Theory—Taking Richard Wilhelm's German Translation of Laozi as an Example
In recent years,"Laozi-fever"has once again attracted attention among the research of domestic scholars.Although there are plenty of research results on Laozi in China and Germany, there are few studies on its conceptual metaphor based on the translation level, and there is still no domestic research on this with taking the translation of Richard Wilhelm as an example.There-fore,this article takes Richard Wilhelm's German translation of Laozi in the Sino-German comparison of the series of Jingchu culture classics published by Chongwen Book Company as an example, adopts literature research method, case study method and descriptive research method to search out how Richard Wilhelm understands and deals with metaphorical expressions in Laozi, and probes into the accuracy of his translation with the support of equivalence theory,in order to clarify the importance of metaphor translation to convey Laozi's thoughts and Chinese cultural values.Through this study,I believes that there are some biases in the Richard Wil-helm's German translation of conceptual metaphors in Laozi, there is still room for optimization, but on the whole,it achieves equiva-lence,and accurately conveys its target area and Taoist thoughts by flexibly using translation strategies and skills, providing a valu-able reference for German readers to understand conceptual metaphors in Chinese ancient books and records.
