Translation of Attitudinal Resources in Appraisal Theory—A Case Study of Zhu Ming's English Translation of Huangdi Neijing·Suwen
The attitude system pertains to judgments and evaluations people make about behaviors and phenomena under psycho-logical influence, relating to human emotions and encompassing three subsystems:judgment, affect, and appreciation. From a transla-tion perspective, the translator's subjective value orientation can influence how the appraisal meaning of the original text is conveyed in the translation. The English translation of Huangdi Neijing·Suwe n extensively employs attitudinal resources of affect, judgment, and appreciation, reflecting the relationship between human health, emotions, natural laws, and treatment methods. This paper utilizes the UAM Corpus Tool to analyze the attitudinal resources in the original text and Zhu Ming's translation of Huangdi Neijing Suwen. It ex-plores the translation strategies in Zhu Ming's version, including the equivalent transfer of attitudinal meaning, selective adoption of the original's attitudinal meaning, and direct expression of the original's attitudinal meaning. The study reveals the importance of cul-tural adaptability in translation and provides new insights for cross-cultural communication.
