On the C-E Translation Strategies of Political Texts from the Perspective of Power Discourse Theory—A Case Study of English Version of the Report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC
Power Discourse Theory holds that while translating,the translator is influenced by the invisible power discourse of the cultural environment.The ideological information conveyed by the text should meet the requirements of the ideology of the source language.Therefore,translations are not only activities of exchanging information between different texts,but also the process of recre-ating the text under the control of power.The translation of political text is a cross-cultural communication activity mainly designed to convey the major policies of the Party and the country,to convey the voice of China,and to promote Chinese culture.It is authorita-tive,political and serious.The quality of translation makes a great impact on the external communication and the construction of the national image.In the process of translation,appropriate translation strategies should be adopted with the help of power discourse the-ory to make translation become an important way to improve the national soft power.Taking the English version of the Report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC as an example,this paper analyzes how to use literal translation,free translation,amplification method and charging-up in the perspective of Power Discourse Theory,to increase the discourse power of translation and comprehen-sively display the connotation and extension of political texts.
