A Preliminary Study on the 24 Sky Murals of Ming Dynasty in Baihuayan Area,Guangfeng,Shangrao,Jiangxi
The image combination of the 24 heavens is a common artistic expression in Buddhist art themes.Most of the remain-ing relics are displayed in the form of sculptures and murals.In the grand hall of Guangfu Temple,located under Baihua Rock in Guangfeng District,Shangrao City,Jiangxi Province,there are two ancient frescoes representing the 24 heavens.The two murals have no documentation,untitled list,and the image looks like there is no backlight,no headlight,no mount,no escort,no pedestal and foot treads,while the two figures are also in disrepair.By studying the cultural background,literature records,and image studies,this pa-per makes a specific identification of the 24 heavens of the two murals,and at the same time research their creation time as the mid-dle and late Ming Dynasty.It also analyzes the composition,color characteristics and brushwork skills of the two shops mural paint-ings,adding an example to the image records of the ancient wall paintings of the 24 Heavens in China.
