Conceptual Metaphors in Sino-US Water Pollution Environmental News Discourses from the Ecolinguistics Perspective
This study conducted a comparative analysis of conceptual metaphors in Sino-US news discourses on water pollution from the perspective of ecolinguistics,aiming to judge the ecological concepts presented by both sides,compare the ecological philosophical views reflected behind and their causes,and analyze the ecological orientation in water pollution news discourse,which includes beneficial discourse,ambivalent discourse,and destructive discourse,promoting the study of conceptual metaphor in ecolinguistics.The findings are as follows:(1)there are both similarities and differences in the types of conceptual metaphors in Sino-US water pollution news discourses;(2)conceptual metaphors in water pollution news in China mostly present beneficial ecological orientation,while those in America are mostly destructive ecological orientation;(3)conceptual metaphors in Chinese water pollution news highlight the ecological concepts of"ecological community with a shared future"while those in America demonstrate"economy first".
