A Study of Shaanxi Media Image Based on Self-Constructed Corpus—Based on Reports from China Daily
Regional image is an important part of a region's comprehensive strength,and understanding Shaanxi's regional image is of great significance to Shaanxi's position in the domestic and international community.News reports not only transmit information of the occurrence and progress of events in time,but more often also have the role of leading public opinions,guiding readers to ac-cept the views and attitudes conveyed by news reports.This study examines China Daily's news reports about Shaanxi from May 1,2001 to March 16,2022 from the perspective of evaluation theory,and explores the image of Shaanxi's foreign propaganda in the me-dia through the analysis of the corpus in terms of the theme of the reports,discourse construction,and affective attitudes and the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the text by means of the corpus paths of high-frequency words,clusters,and collocation.The study finds that China Daily's reports of Shaanxi over the past 20 years include politics,economy,culture,ecology,society and liveli-hood,and health care,etc.The reports are very comprehensive,and there are far more positive reports than negative ones.However,the reports mainly focus on Shaanxi as a whole and the capital city of Xi'an,with little coverage of prefecture-level municipality.
