A new type of pounding tuned mass damper-inerter(PTMDI)was proposed based on the existing tuned mass damper inertial(TMDI),which combined pounding energy dissipation mechanism and inertial system,to control the wind induced vibration of high slender structures.In this device,the movement of the oscillator was restricted by installing a baffle made of viscoelastic materials.In addition to increasing collision energy dissipation and reducing the device size,the acceleration sudden change generated by the oscillator during collision could also be used to improve the mass amplifica-tion of the inertial device,which to extent solved the space and weight requirements of the damper for high and slender structures.The dynamic equation of the high mast lighting-PTMDI system was established,and the vibration reduction performance of PTMDI under wind load was compared and studied with traditional TMD and PTMD.The results show that PTMDI can achieve vibration control of high mast lighting with a small additional mass,and the control effect is bet-ter than traditional TMD and PTMD.Parameter analysis shows that the control effect of PTMDI is positively correlated with pounding interval,negatively correlated with pounding stiffness,and more sensitive to changes in pounding interval.The larger the mass ratio,the better the control of PTMDI,and the control performance shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the ratio of inertia ratio to mass ratio of the damper,and there exists an optimal value,the larger the mass ratio,the smaller the corresponding optimal value.
