In vitro bacteriostatic studies on Citrobacter freundii by 40 Chinese herbal medicines and their combinations
In order to find out the effective prevention and treatment of aquatic diseases caused by Citrobacter freun-dii,we investigated the in vitro bacteriostatic effects of forty individual Chinese herbal medicines and their combina-tions on C.freundii isolated form Procambarus clarkii. The dimensions of the inhibitory circle for the 40 individual Chinese herbal medicines were tested with plate perforation method, followed by testing both the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC)of the 4 Chinese herbal medicines that ex-hibit superior inhibitory effects against C.freundii, and then the compounding effect of these four Chinese herbal medicines was evaluated. The results revealed that 12 Chinese herbal medicines possessed bacteriostatic properties,Fructus mume has the best antibacterial effect, with the inhibitory circle and the MIC were 23.33±0.33 mm and 31.25 mg/mL,respectively.Rhus chinensis exhibits the second susceptibility, with the inhibition circle and the MIC were 18.00±4.00 mm and 62.5 mg/mL,respectively.The best bacteriostatic effect was observed in the group of F.mume+R.chinensis combination, with the inhibition circle,MIC and MBC were 16.50 mm,31.25 mg/mL and 62.5 mg/mL,respectively.This study demonstrated that the single F.mume as well as the compound of F.mume+R.chinensis had good inhibitory effects on C.freundii and could be used for the prevention and control of C.freundii disease in P.clarkii aquaculture.
