Preparation and oil absorption capacity of Fe3O4/polystyrene-modified melamine sponge
Ferrosoferric oxide(Fe3O4)nanoparticles were firstly prepared by a solvothermal method, and then they were coated on the surface of melamine sponge(MS)by an ultrasonic impregnation method. Finally, the Fe3O4/PS@MS was prepared by photoinitiation polymerization of styrene on the surface of the sponge skeleton. The structures of the modified sponge were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and water contact angle instrument. The absorption properties of the modified sponge towards isooctane,n-butanol,toluene,chloroform and diesel oil and the reusability of the sponge were investigated. The results show that the Fe3O4/PS@MS exhibits hydrophobicity and lipophilicity, with the water contact angle about 133.3°.The absorption capability of the modified sponge for different oils and organic solvents is in the range of 59-85 g/g,and the sponge can selectively absorb oil and organic solvent in the oil-water mixed liquid. In addition, this oil-absorbing material has the advantages of facile preparation, low cost, and good reusability.
