Study on the Application of Air-cooled Blast Furnace Slag in Highway Subgrade Engineering
The test section of subgrade was paved with heavy slag from blast furnace of Baotou Steel, and the mineral composition, stability, cohesion, compressibility, resilience modulus and bearing rati-o of heavy slag as filling material were tested and analyzed. The influence of particle size on maximum dry density and optimum water content and construction technology were studied. The results show that the heavy slag has good stability and contains silicate materials such as C3S tricalcium silicate and C2S dicalcium silicate, which has certain gelling activity and is beneficial to improve the bearing capac-ity.The compression coefficient of heavy slag filling material is 0.05 MPa-1,which belongs to low compressibility soil, with resilience modulus of 86.7 MPa and cohesion of 13.66 kPa.The bearing ra-tio can meet the strength design requirements of subgrade at different depths. With the decrease of the 9.5 mm pass rate of heavy slag, the maximum dry density and the optimum moisture content of the rammed specimen gradually decrease. The loose paving coefficient of heavy slag subgrade test section is 1.1,and the best rolling method is 2 times static pressure plus 6 times dynamic pressure. The com-paction parameters meet the specification requirements, the average flatness is less than 20mm,and the road performance is excellent.
