Application of Traditional Gourd Patterns in Apparel Product Design
As one of the patterns with the longest history in China,the gourd pattern is rich in cultural connotations and auspicious symbols.Applying it to modern apparel design is not only the inheritance and activation of traditional Chinese culture,but also creates new ideas for modern design.The article employs research methods such as literature review,image analysis and design practice to analyse the diversified ways of presenting traditional gourd pattern in apparel product design,to summarize the principles of applying the gourd pattern in apparel product,to design the innovative patterns,and to carry out the practical application.The final res ult is the effect of the traditional gourd pattern in the modern apparel items.The study concluded that,firstly,the diver sified design expression of the traditional gourd pattern has a strong adaptability to modern apparel items,which is in line with the diversified developmen t trend of modern apparel products and meets the psychological needs of contemporary people in purs uit of individuation and artistry;Secondly,the design of traditional gourd pattern in apparel should follow three application principles,firstly,it follows the princi ple of applicability and focus on the practicality and humanized function of the gourd pattern products;secondly,it conforms to the aesthetic demand and enriches the fashionable elements of the gourd pattern in the design of apparel;and thirdly,it focuses on cultural inherita nce and conveys the auspicious cultural symbolism of the gourd pattern.Finally,using modern design means,the image features of the gourd pattern were extracted by hand-painting from traditional gourd-patterned purses,hairpins and earrings,adopting thematic pattern design and combined pattern design methods,combined with modern design elements for redesign.So that the gourd pattern has a more fashionable and interesting sense compared with the original pattern.It is also realized in bags,necklaces and earrings,so that the produc ts are integrated into modern life in a novel way.
