Mechanism and Test of Digital Economy Promoting Coordinated Regional Economic Development
It is such an important way to promote coordinated regional economic development by making advantage of the digital economy to empower city economies.Based on the sample data of 278 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2011 to 2019,the impact of digital economy on coordinated regional economic development and the acting mechanism are empirically examined.The study finds that the digital economy has a significant positive impact on the coordinated development of the regional economy,and this promotion effect is more significant in the east and central cities.Mechanism analyses show that the digital economy can drive the coordinated development of the regional economy by forming economic agglomeration and improving scientific and technological innovation capacity;and there is a significant spatial spillover effect.Additional analyses find that there is an obvious inverted U-shaped relationship between the digital economy and regional economic disparity;the continuous innovation of enterprises plays a positive regulating role in the relationship between the digital economy and the coordinated development of regional economy,and this role is more obvious in the eastern region.Therefore,the findings of the paper contribute new explanations and evidence to the impact effect and mechanism of the digital economy on the coordinated development of regional economy.
