Research on Vehicle Routing and Matching Problem in Bus-assisted Urban Express Delivery System
In this paper, aiming at the declining passenger flow and idle capacity of bus systems in small and medium-sized cities, and as an attempt at solving the"last mile"problem in urban end-point delivery,we propose an innovative express-bus route matching model. In a multi-objective planning with the goal of maximizing the matching rate between the carrying capacity of a bus route and the demand for the express delivery service, the constructed model comprehensively considers the delivery capacity of the bus and the service demand volume at the demand points, and through full load rate screening, distance calculation, and service radius setting, etc.,it ensures that the additional express capacity of the bus would not affect normal bus operation and passenger experience. In the empirical part,we select the bus operation system of Taojiang County,Yiyang City,Hunan Prov-ince for a case study, and collect detailed data on the bus routes, stops, and express delivery demand points in the county.By applying the constructed model for calculation and analysis,we find that the model can effec-tively match bus routes with express delivery demand, improve the utilization rate of the buses, and at the same time reduce the transportation costs of express delivery companies. In addition, the application of the model helps reduce urban traffic congestion and improve the service quality and economic benefits of the bus company. The innovation of this study lies in that it repurposes the traditional bus terminal transportation and distri-bution model, which is usually affiliated to the passenger and freight joint transportation problem,to the ex-press delivery planning for communities near bus stops so as to make full use of the bus stops, release the de-livery potential of the buses, and enhance the depth of cooperation between the bus and the express delivery companies. This model enriches the research content in the field of urban logistics and distribution, and pro-vides scientific decision-making support and practical route planning tools for bus-assisted urban express de-livery.
