Research on Influencing Factors of Operating Efficiency of Chinese Airlines:Based on Dynamic Network SBM and Threshold Model
This paper studies the factors affecting the operational efficiency of Chinese airlines during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, aiming to analyze the current situation and management effectiveness of the civ-il aviation industry and promote efficient industry development. The study divides airline operations into production and service subprocesses, measures efficiency using a dynamic network SBM model, and explores influencing factors using the panel data regression model and threshold model. It finds that the operational ef-ficiency of domestic airlines is generally low, with the service subprocess performing better than the produc-tion subprocess. The flight punctuality rate has a significant positive impact on the efficiency of the produc-tion subprocess, while the complaint rate negatively affects the efficiency of both subprocesses.Fleet compo-sition has a threshold effect on the efficiency of the service subprocess, with different levels affecting opera-tional efficiency differently. Therefore,it is recommended that airlines optimize their fleet composition to re-duce operational costs, improve management models to reduce flight delays, and promote service innovation to enhance service quality. The paper first points out that the civil aviation industry faces the requirement for high-quality transfor-mation during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and the efficient operation of airlines is crucial for the healthy development of the industry. The complex and ever-changing external environment leads to opera-tional imbalances, making it essential to identify the key factors affecting operational efficiency. It then re-views the literature related to airline operational efficiency, pointing out the limitations of existing research and presenting the research methods and contributions of this paper. In the theoretical analysis and research hypothesis section, the paper selects factors affecting operational effi-ciency based on the operational characteristics of the airlines, including fleet composition, flight punctuality rate, and complaint rate, and proposes the corresponding hypotheses. In the model setting section,it de-scribes in detail the efficiency measurement model and the selection of efficiency evaluation indicators,in-cluding input indicators, intermediate variables, output indicators, and carryover variables. The sample selec-tion and data source section explains the research period and the selection of sample companies,as well as the data sources. The empirical analysis section presents the results of panel data regression, showing that flight punctuality rate and complaint rate have significant impact on the efficiency of the production subprocess, while fleet composition has significant impact on the efficiency of the service subprocess. The existence test of the threshold effect and the construction of the threshold model further explore the impact of significant vari-ables on efficiency at different levels. Finally, the paper proposes some management recommendations,in-cluding optimizing fleet composition, improving management models, and promoting service innovation to enhance the operational efficiency of airlines. In summary, this paper provides theoretical basis and practical guidance for improving the operational effi-ciency of Chinese airlines through the dynamic network SBM model and threshold model, which has refer-ence value for future efficiency improvement efforts by Chinese airlines.
